The Pattern Guru doesn’t have a set price list (apart from the block patterns available on the website), as we feel that it would be more misleading than helpful as each customers needs are so different. We understand that knowing our price range is important which is why all you need to do is enquire with us to receive a free, no obligation quote.
What information do you need to provide me with for a quote?
Please let us know which of our services you intend on using, what you need done and your time frame.
If you intend to use our pattern cutting services and do not have a tech pack developed yet, then please email sketches or any inspirational images with a brief garment description. The more info you can supply in regard to fabric choice, seam finish, linings, facings and interfacing etc. the better. Or, if you prefer, we can decide on the details for you.
How can I use my Digital Pattern once you’ve sent it to me?
We can send you your file as a PDF or editable as an ePattern depending on your needs. If you want your pattern sent to you ready to be printed you can choose whichever size is most convenient for you. A4 can be used so you can print from your domestic printer (the pages will have to be stuck together, they’re clearly marked, so, don’t worry, it’s simple!) or bigger sizes. A0 or A1 are recommended as most pattern pieces fit completely on the page so just have to be cut out once printed (this can be done at your local print shop).
What is a PDF pattern?
A PDF pattern is a downloadable full-scale pattern broken up into individual pages which you can print out in a variety of paper sizes (A4, A3, A2, A1, A0). The pages are then taped back together to form your complete pattern. Great when you want to access your patterns straight away. You can print and adjust them as many times as you like without losing the original pattern.
What is an ePattern?
An ePattern is an editable version of your pattern, saved in the form of an SVG file (Scalable Vector Graphics). An ePattern can be opened in any editing suite that accepts the SVG format. ePatterns give you the ability to edit or re-draw parts you want to adjust. We recommend using Adobe Illustrator as it’s the most comprehensive suite to edit and amend your patterns.
How do I print and construct a PDF pattern?
Printing and constructing your PDF pattern is very simple, you will receive a printing guide and set of instructions along with your order.
You will need Acrobat Reader, Preview or similar software to open PDF files. Don’t worry if you don’t have it. Acrobat reader is available to download for free here:
Do you sell printed patterns?
We mostly work digitally, however, we occasionally have customers who prefer to receive the physical pattern. In which case, for an extra charge we print, cut-out and post you your pattern.
What is a basic block?
A basic block is a basic bodice, sleeve, skirt, trouser, or dress pattern that is made to fit a particular person, size, or mannequin exactly. It has minimal darts or design features and is used as a template to create more complicated designs or styles.
